The local governing body in Albertville is the City Council. The council consists of five members including the Mayor and four council members – all elected at large. The Mayor serves a tear year term and the council members serve alternating four year terms, with local elections held every two years. The City Council delegates the policies and ordinances that are administered by the City Staff.

City History

The city of Albertville began its history as a small town site named “Hamburg” in 1881. That same year, the Minneapolis and Northwestern Railroad Company purchased a strip of land in the area, which connected Hamburg to the Clearwater area. By 1882, the railroad connected the area to St. Cloud as well. The town was renamed St. Michael’s Station, and in 1902 was incorporated into a village. As further developments continued, including the Church of St. Albert, the suggestion was given to change the name to Albertville, and in 1919 the name was legally changed.
